Packing for a Road Trip

Tomorrow we pack up and leave for our yearly trip to colorful Colorado!  We will be celebrating my parents 35th wedding anniversary!  I've been looking into things to bring for my two year old, while we drive for 16 hours on long stretches of Texas, New Mexico and Colorado Highway.  Remember playing with felt when you were younger?  I cut out the colors of the rainbow for Amelia to puzzle together.  The picture below is of my niece, Jordan, who's testing the puzzle out while Amelia still naps.  : )

Art Magnets

I recently started creating these little glass magnets to sell at my art markets.   They are all original watercolor paintings that you can put on your fridge.  No nails required! : )

Meatless Monday

For a while now I've devoted Monday's as "Meatless Monday".   I'm not sure when I decided to do this.  It kind of came naturally.  After a long weekend of eating out at restaurants or having barbeque in our backyard I would just not crave meat on mondays.  So, for lunch I made some carrot soup from the Real Simple website.  I tweaked it a bit, by adding some leftover sweet potato mash from last night's dinner and instead of fresh ginger I used the spiced kind from home.  Amelia had some but I think next time I'll use less ginger and pepper because it might have been a bit too spicy for her.

The State of Texas

This is a commission piece I completed today while celebrating Amelia's 2nd Birthday.  Multi tasking Mama here!  The image will be printed on blank cards. With all this technology nowadays, I'm happy people still love to write personal messages to one another.

Wrapping and Cutting

My dear niece, Jordan, turned two today.  I love this girl so much.  Every Thursday Amelia and I get to hang out with her, and it's just been so much fun to watch her grow and really getting her own little personality.  I'm really into turquoise lately so I bought some pretty wrapping paper and orange just really pops when you put the two colors together, don't you think? I hope she likes her presents!

Surprise Surprise!
Amelia's Birthday is tomorrow and I started working on a pretty crown for her to wear.  I hope she wears it, because if she doesn't I will for sure.  :)

Forgotten Camera

I had high hopes of taking tons of photos to post on my blog last night.  I brought my fancy canon camera along, and asked Liz to take some photos while I was teaching and then she points out to me, " Kim, there isn't a card in your camera". O o.  I used it earlier that day to upload several photos and totally forgot to put it back. Oopseedoopee. This photo below was posted online at Thread's Facebook account.  I'm so proud of these ladies and how great their little Texas state paintings turned out!

Color Mixing

I'm getting ready for class tonight.  I've got all the colors mixed together, so we can begin painting right away.  Tonight's going to be special, because my mother-in-law is in town from Michigan, my sis-in-law is helping me out, and my best bud from High School is coming too!  Hopefully I'll get some photos tonight so I can post the results tomorrow.

Art Class

It took me a few months, but I finally got a watercolor class set up at Thread .  My first class was last month, and the next one is this coming Monday, July 22nd at 630pm.  We had tons of fun painting and drinking wine that night.

Mitch Cohen, founder of The First Saturday Arts Market, and Arts column writer in the local newspaper The Leader, added me to his column this week.  Super excited!

Bernhardt Vineyard

Last weekend my family and I had a delicious picnic and lots of yummy wine at Bernhardt Vineyard in Plantersville, TX.  While we sipped our wine the table next to us played their guitar and sang songs.  Amelia loved it too. I brought a ball along and we all took turns kicking the ball around.  This girl's going to be a good soccer player one day! It must be the Dutch blood in her. ;)  this definitely will be a place to come back to. http://www.bernhardtwinery.com/
