A Rainy Weekend

Houston had some rain this past weekend, but that didn't stop us from going to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site sunday afternoon.  The site includes the location of The Battle of San Jacinto and the USS Texas.  It's about a 20 minute drive from our house so it ended up being a nice little half day adventure for the fam.

Waiting patiently on the ferry.

The ferry is here!  Excitement!

Yes, we are those people that still use maps.

Amelia has spotted the Mamarazzi.

This old guy fought in WWI and WWII.  Pretty impressive, eh?   You can pay $20 and explore on board the ship.

Details.

The San Jacinto Monument was completed in 1939 commemorating the site of the Battle of San Jacinto.   *Fun fact*  It only lasted 18 minutes.  About 630 Mexicans died, and 730 captured, while only 9 Texians died!  First thing we did when we got home was watch The Alamo.   The movie ends with the Battle of San Jacinto.  To our disappointment it wasn't filmed here in Houston.

View from the upper deck at 555 ft.  of The San Jacinto Monument.  Notice the battleship on the top right?

 Pollution!

The reason why we can't eat more than 8 ounces of fish per month from these waters.

So surprising the find such a beautiful park in the midst of oil refineries.

Don't Mess with a Squirrel & his Acorn

Our yard gets frequent squirrel visitors and I love it!

Thread

If you live in Houston make sure to check out Thread on 19th street in The Heights.  It's an upscale children's resale boutique with tons of stylish clothes, fun toys for your little ones, and as of today my art work is up for sale there too!  Photo's of the display to come soon!  Check out their blog here.

Silverton, Colorado

I'm back! Again!

Last week we went on vacation to Silverton, Colorado and had blast!  We loved the cool weather, beautiful golden aspen trees, and long hikes in the San Juan Mountains.  It was Amelia's first trip to the mountains and even saw her first bit of snow.  We took so many nice pictures.  We even took photos of our hike to the top of Kendall Mountain at 13,451 ft.  The climb was tough but the views were breathtaking.  Now the bad news.. On the way down we lost the camera! We never found it and now all those beautiful pictures are gone.  The good news is that it doesn't take away our fond memories and we have another camera at home.  I can't wait to go back!

This is a photo of me nearby Silverton in September, 2006.
I just had to share with you how beautiful this part of the country is.

Whooo. Whooo.

Jo is in the house!

I've had the pleasure of looking after Jordan while Liz ( David's sister) & DK went out house hunting in the area today.  I have to say, it is the most beautiful day for house hunting. I hope they find a perfect little home for themselves and that's nearby of course.  It's been fun having Jo here because it gives me an excuse to put all chores aside and play with the girls!

Jordan successfully took all of the crayon out of the box!
Fun colors.  I might need to do some art work with crayons some time.

Shapes

As an artist and a mom I can't wait for Amelia to be able to draw and paint with me.  When she's at that point I created four stamps for her to learn the basic shapes with.

Recycled Panda

I found some old paper bags in my "hoekje" (aka. my tiny studio ) that I used to paint on.  I also used some old gesso and watercolor as medium.

Labor Day Weekend

David fixing one of the six flats on the evening we rode in the Houston Critical Mass bike ride.

The large hamburger painted on the front of  Little Bitty Burger Barn.

Amelia cheered her Papa on.

David tried to eat a 2 lbs. burger at Little Bitty Burger Barn.  At 3/4 of a burger his stomach was completely full and didn't win the food challenge.   On the wall in the background you'll see all the photos of people we did succeed.

Birdy Ride a Bike

Hi There.  We had a bit of a rough week which involved a trip to the hospital when my husband got 2nd degree burns on his face and arm.  He now is almost completely healed and thank goodness it didn't leave any scars on his face.  Amelia also had a fever so I have been playing nurse at home which means not a lot of time to paint!

Last Friday David and I rode in an urban Critical Mass bike ride all throughout town which inspired me to paint this little bird riding on a bicycle.
